KENNEDY'S
PEAK
NATIONAL FOREST TRAIL
The trip to the top of this mountain has some beautiful
views
looking north down the mountain and to the west across the
valley . During the early 1930's the first Civilian Conservation
Corp. had a camp at Camp Roosevelt near the trail head of Duncan
Hollow. From this base camp they did a lot of work in the George
Washington National Forest, including the construction of the
look-out tower at the top of Kennedy's Peak. From this look-out
you can view the valley between the Massanutten Mountains and
the Blue Ridge Mountain range to the east. Elevation at the top of
Kennedy's Peak is 2310 feet. From this vantage point you can
see the south fork of the Shenandoah River flowing at the base of
this mountain. This trip makes a loop that takes four to five hours.
It has a few rocky spots, some narrow trails in a few places
but is well worth the effort.
